Entry Gaming Notebook and Easy to Upgrade

We picked up this notebook as an entry gaming platform for our son. The hardware specs at first glance might not seem that performant with 8GB of RAM or a 256GB SSD, but both of those are easy to upgrade. The Intel Core i5-13420H process is an 8-core CPU, which pairs well with the NVIDIA 4050 GPU with 6GB of VRAM. We've upgraded the SSD from 256GB to 2TB for more storage space and the RAM from 8GB to 32GB. For our son the platform is highly capable, from gaming to light AI workloads. The notebook has two DIMM slots, one is occupied for the included 8GB DIMM. There are also two M.2 SSD slots, with only one occupied. Both slots include set screws, making it easy to upgrade the SSD and still use the included one for additional capacity. On gaming capabilities, the NVIDIA 4050 holds up really well. The games of choice are Fortnite and Roblox, which are often run together with one of the other in the background. With settings nearly maxed out, the notebook often stays above 100FPS in those games. The screen resolution is only 1080P, which helps compared to a 4K panel that would need a higher graphics card to render more pixels. The 1080P panel on this notebook is an IPS panel rated at 165hz, which looks great for gaming. While gaming, the notebook keeps its cool from two fans inside the chassis. One for the CPU, the other for the GPU. In terms of noise, its pretty calm while doing productivity tasks, but once you start gaming the fan noise is noticeable. Its a louder blowing noise, with the exhaust coming out from the screen hinge area. Nothing terrible, but it will definitely be noticed by those 10-20 feet from you in a quiet area. Battery life is reasonable on the notebook with a 57.5Wh battery. If you are pushing the notebook in gaming while on battery, you will get somewhere between 1-2 hours. If you are looking to do lighter tasks like taking notes, browsing the web, etc expect to get between 4-5 hours. On power, the notebook can only charge through the AC power plug itself, not through its thunderbolt connection. The notebook design and color are really nice. Its a darker plastic finish with some subtle design elements. The finish is smooth and will work well if you want to apply vinyl stickers to it. The keyboard backlight is a single orange color only.

This Acer Nitro V it's a very good option if you're looking for a powerful gaming laptop without spending a fortune.

The good:
Runs almost all current games in 1080p smoothly, even heavy titles.
The 144Hz display looks good enough.
RAM and SSD upgrades are easy. (and recommended)
Excellent price/performance ratio.

The not-so-good:
The fans are somewhat noisy in demanding games.
Not upgrading the RAM could be a problem in the future. (Again, adding at least 8 GB more is very recommended.)

The media could not be loaded.

The computer has been quite a ride. When I purchased it, the price was $679, which was more than reasonable considering everything it offers. Of course, at that price some might expect a poor product, but that’s not the case here. Still, I would say this is more of a “project” laptop, as upgrading the RAM is absolutely necessary if you plan to use it for demanding tasks.

Performance:
With the limited RAM, it handles basic and relatively simple tasks well. For more demanding tasks, performance is just average. The system runs fast overall, Wi-Fi speed is solid, and the graphics are decent as long as you’re not too demanding. As mentioned, this computer shines as a base to upgrade, especially by adding more RAM.

Display:
The screen looks good. Since it’s an LCD panel, you can’t expect extremely vibrant colors, but it still delivers a pleasant experience and the refresh rate is more than sufficient.

Cons:
1. The spacebar does not have backlighting.
2. The RAM is very limited.

Issues Experienced:
1. The pre-installed Windows was defective. After transferring files from my old computer, it started deleting data and even erased my entire user folder. I basically lost almost everything, recovering only a few files I had on another SSD. I had to reformat and reinstall Windows, which was a chaotic first experience. However, after installing a fresh copy of Windows 11, I haven’t encountered the same problems again.
2. RAM limitations are significant. Just being on the desktop consumes around 80% of the available memory. I strongly recommend purchasing additional RAM to avoid these restrictions.

Overall, it’s a good value laptop for the price, but keep in mind that adding more RAM is essential to get the most out of

Great for price! It runs games pretty well and loads things quickly, I've been trying it out with fortnite and genshin impact, with no issues at all (connectivity, freezing, etc), it's obviously not going to run like other laptops with the best components, but it's not supposed to.
(I say this because of all the reviews where they feel the graphics, fps, screen quality could be better). If you don't care about having the top 1% performance on your laptop, then this is just perfect, you will probably be able to run any game and play without any issues for a really good price. I think the only downside is that you'll use a good portion of the hard-drive after downloading just a couple of games.
